Mornin’ Sunshine

Juicing Recipe found at: stephanie-spring.com

On Saturday, Eric and I had a slow morning. Just the way I like it. 🙂 We slept in, made breakfast, sipped coffee and relaxed. One of my favorite parts about breakfast was the fresh juice that we made. I always forget how much I love it until I take that first sip. There really is nothing like it. It is so light, fresh, and flavorful. Last month I talked about my favorite kitchen gadgets, here and obviously the Bella Juicer was on the list because it works wonders. There are endless combinations of fruits that taste oh so yummy but I always go back to this recipe. Once you have had fresh juice, there is no going back and I don’t plan on it. 😉

Mornin’ Sunshine

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (peeled)
  • 1 grapefruit (peeled)
  • 3 oranges (peeled)

What to do:

Place all ingredients into a juicer and turn on high until all juice has finished processing. Pour and enjoy! 🙂

(I drink it within an hour for peak freshness!)

Happy Tuesday! 🙂

Let’s Talk…Hair and Make-up

letstalkToday I’m talking all about hair and make-up with Andrea and Erika! I did a similar post a few months ago on both of these topics. I still use similar products but have updated some things here and there. 🙂
Hair21. Shampoo/Conditioner– I’ve mentioned that I like to keep about two to three shampoos and conditioners in the shower and switch it up throughout the week. I always have L’Oreal’s shampoo and conditioner on hand since it’s sulfate-free and keeps my highlights bright and blonde. I have been slowly trying to switch my hair and make-up routine to products that don’t have many harmful chemicals in them. Which brings me to these products!2016-04-24_0001Acure Shampoo//Acure Conditioner//Acure Argan Oil//Acure Leave-in Conditioner

Has anyone tried Acure’s products? They have hardly any toxic chemicals in them and have gotten great reviews!

2.12 Benefits Spray–  I’m still a fan of 12 Benefits spray! After washing my hair, I spray about 2 to 3 squirts onto my hair before combing. It helps with smoothing out my hair and knotting. Blonde hair is not forgiving with knots.

3. Hairdryer– I love this hairdryer so much! After several years, it still has so much power and is definitely worth the purchase!

4. Curling Iron– This is by far one of my favorite tools. 🙂 It’s my most-used go-to product. I still use the one inch barrel and absolutely love it!

5. Straightener– I feel like I straighten my hair less and less these days. But when I do, this straightener works like a gem!

6. Redken Smooth Lock Heat Glide– I use this before blow-drying my hair if it is feeling extremely dull. For me, I learned that the secret is to only use this during the winter months or when I am straightening my hair. Otherwise, it weighs down my curls and they tend to fall out.

I squirt about two pumps into my hands, rub together, and start on my ends and work my way up. If my hair is recently cut or feeling healthy, I use one pump and gently add it to only the ends of my hair. Such a great product overall!

7. Garnier Hairspray– I feel like my hair has needed some more taming lately and this does the trick. I love it!

8. Kenra Hairspray– This hairspray gives a slightly tighter hold and smells like heaven! Seriously. It smells amazing and holds your look in place all day long.

Make-upI always put face moisturizer on right after the shower to get my face moisturized and hydrated. Before starting my routine, I have been putting liquid foundation on and then using the products below.

1. Foundation– This powder foundation feels and looks so natural but also evens out my face and covers up any blemishes. I love, love, love it!

2. Faux Tan– It always feels good to add a little color to my face. This shade works perfect with my skin tone and gives me that little boost.

3.  Buxom Lashliner– This eyeliner works so well and goes on extremely smooth! It stays on all day long and lasts several months. I also love this eyeliner for a more defined look!

4. Mascara– I have been using this mascara for years and don’t plan on switching any time soon! It stays on all day long, and doesn’t smudge or flake. It is without a doubt, worth every penny!

5. Mineral Veil– If you don’t have this in your make-up bag, you need to go buy it! It honestly holds everything in place all day long! It goes on after all of your make-up is complete and gives you such a subtle glow. It’s amazing!

6. NARS Lips: Color 1. Color 2– Every girl needs a little pop of color and lately, these two colors keep doing the trick for any and all seasons. 🙂

7. A little shine over lipstick goes a long way! 😉

That’s all the hair and make-up tips I have, ladies! Have a great Monday! 🙂

But Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Math stations: stephanie-spring.comMath stations: stephanie-spring.comMath stations: stephanie-spring.comSometimes it feels extremely difficult to be creative with fifth grade math. I decided to make a few math stations as a review for PSSA’s and to get my students out of their seats and moving. The best part about the stations is that it’s interactive, inexpensive, and super easy to create! These could be adapted and modified in so many ways and for any age! They were so fun to make! 🙂 Math stations: stephanie-spring.comMath stations: stephanie-spring.comMath stations: stephanie-spring.com

  • Egg station:  How many people remember the saying, “But please excuse my dear Aunt Sally?!” It’s such a common mnemonic device to help with order of operations. I love it! I used egg crates and bought plastic easter eggs from the dollar store. Inside each egg was practice with exponents. The students had a separate worksheet to show their work and answer. They had an answer key to check their own work independently. They loved it!
  • B (Brackets)
  • P (Parenthesis)
  • E (Exponents)
  • M (Multiplication)
  • D (Division)
  • A (Addition)
  • S (Subtraction)
  • Fraction card game: Students were each given a fraction card and had to find students with cards that were equivalent fractions to their card.
  • Box Station: I saved different sized boxes, covered them with construction paper, and wrote different dimensions on the boxes. Students were responsible for finding the volume of each figure. This checked their knowledge on the formula of volume as well as their multiplication skills.

Happy Thursday! 🙂

Blogger Spotlight: The Davis Duo

DSC_1039It has been so fun following Owen’s journey over at The Davis Duo. She is one of the sweetest people and I love chatting with her about blogging and marriage. See for yourself. 😉

1. What made you start blogging?

I began blogging to document both my time in PA school and the wedding planning process. I thought it would just be a “journal” that only my mom would read that I could look back on later in life. Little did I know how many friends I would make through blogging and how much I would fall in love with it! I now consider my blog a “lifestyle” blog, where I document real life moments in our marriage mixed with occasional recipe posts and much more!

2. Tell me about your occupation.

I am an orthopedic physician assistant and I LOVE my job! I am only 3 months in but it is the perfect fit for me! I see patients in the office most days and assist in surgery other days. We do all types of orthopedic surgeries including hip replacements, knee replacements, carpal tunnel release, distal radius fractures, femur fractures, etc. I do a LOT of injections in joints for arthritis pain and look at hundreds of x-rays a week. Every day you see something new and exciting; it definitely keeps me on my toes! One thing I love most about my job is that there is always an acute problem (pain, broken bone, etc) that I have the ability to fix and make better. It’s so gratifying to make patients feel better!

3. What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day starts off around 6:15am with the dreaded alarm. Out of bed and straight to the coffee maker for a large cup of coffee. Feed and let the doggy out then it’s time to get ready. I leave the house around 7:20am for a 30 minute commute to work. I see patients all morning then head to the hospital around 12:00pm to make rounds on all the inpatients on our service. Spend an 1.5 hours at the hospital checking on our patients and writing notes then back to the office to inhale my lunch before afternoon patients. See patients until 5:00pm then straight to the gym to meet hubs for a workout. I usually get home around 7:00pm and we cook dinner. Shower, read or watch t.v. in bed for a little bit, then lights out around 10:00pm (I’m such an old lady!).

 4. How did you and your hubby meet?
We met the day I moved to Chapel Hill to begin college at UNC. One of my guy friends from high school was already at UNC on the baseball team and through visiting him I began crushing HARD on one of his tall blonde teammates named Garrett. One thing led to another and we began texting the summer before I left for college. He asked if he could take me on a date the day I moved to UNC and sure enough, he picked me up that night and we went to dinner! It was a semi-blind date, as we had never officially met but had talked and seen each other from a distance. We hit it off instantly and were married 4.5 years later!

5. What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago?

Trust the Lord because His plans are SO much better than any plans you have for yourself! That high school boyfriend that you thought you were going to marry that proceeded to shatter your heart into a million pieces? Well God is preparing a man for you that is 20394825 times better! And your constant worry about not knowing what you want to do with your life? Relax! You will find your passion in medicine and all the late nights of studying will be totally worth it.

6. What are some of your hobbies?
My very favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband and doggy. He is seriously my best friend. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, we always have the best time together. We spend all our summer weekends at my family’s beach house…my happy place. We love taking our dog on walks and letting her swim. Also, any time I have a good book in hand I am a happy girl! We love spending time outside and we go on walks, bike rides, etc. any chance we get.

 7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I have always dreamed of having a house full of blonde haired, blue eyed babies. Our road to this dream hasn’t been easy as we are currently battling infertility and are in the midst of IVF but I pray that in 5 years this will be a distant memory. In 5 years I hope to be working part-time so that I can spend more time at home with our [future] kids.

You can read all my answers to these questions, here!

Happy Wednesday everyone! 🙂
